The Psychology of AI lab

Artificial intelligence (AI) has a huge potential to shape and generate impact in society, because it is everywhere and encountered more and more often throughout our daily lives. For example, consumers receive product recommendations or even advice on which medical doctor to visit. AI enables autonomous products. It also allows companies to outsource tasks to robots that were previously performed by humans. Even cities may get recommendations on how to plan urban mobility. 

Existing research in information systems and computer science focuses exclusively on the technical computations of algorithms and the output that they deliver. But ultimately, the success of AI depends on people’s beliefs and adoption behaviour. So, it is important to focus on the people who interpret and interact with AI and algorithmic advice. 

Dr Anne-Kathrin Klesse is the academic director of The Psychology of AI lab, a group of interdisciplinary experts who focus on examining the human side of data and AI.
